What's intended to be quick thoughts (we'll see how it pans out)

Barack Obama for President:

Over the past week, I've been hearing his name more and more (finally someone other than the junior senator from New York who may as well get a target tattooed on her forehead)and, really, what's holding this guy back? His reputation is spotless. From all accounts, he--so far-- purports to be an ACTUAL liberal. He's a dynamic speaker. He's handsome. He's genuine. He's got a charming folksy background story. Someone, please, find a fault! Or no, wait, don't. Let him stay perfect. If he and Jon Stewart were to have a baby, I think I'd marry it (given that it had Jon Stewart's hair-- the African American hair genes would not mix well with my Crazy Jew Hair genes, I'm very sorry to say).

Except that I'd hate to see him become a target like Hillary. And I'd hate to see him compromise his "liberal-ness" towards that pansy-ass notion of "The Moderate." I don't want a moderate in office, dammit! I want an actual goddamn liberal who will refuse to alienate his core constituency by cow-towing to the retarded--uh, religious--right!

Ford/Corker

Hey, what do you know? The Tennessee senate race is getting plenty o' press here in DC! Now, as anyone reading Jon's blog knows, I ain't no huge Ford fan... But man-o-man, if they can stir up enough publicity, he's sure a better bet than Bob "I'm More Republican-y Than You" Corker! However, Green Party, you are a tempting mistress indeed.

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip

Is this show too good to be true? I mean, here's a show, on a major network station, that is consistently-- and accurately--critical of its very own network? It's smart, sexy, literate, and full of heart--not to mention, pointedly self-reflective. I mean, I don't get HBO. If I wanna get hooked on Deadwood, I'd have to fork over another $30 towards my already exorbitant cable bill... or rent it at Blockbuster. I'm not eager to do either, really. So, this is just to say, thank you, Aaron Sorkin, thank you NBC honchos-- for appreciating that not every member of your audience wants to watch "molesters" be badgered by a dickhead "news reporter" (see post re: Dateline: To Catch a Predator).

Obama-every liberal's dream and anyone with a brain expects, not just hopes, that he will be President one day and (one would think) would have a chance to be a world changer. It seems that the world can't wait through 4-8 more years of incompentence, lest the world be blown up (on purpose or accidentally) before a savior intervenes.

Obama is in a unique position--I haven't ever heard a Republican say anything bad about him or even deny that think he willl be a great leader--you can sometimes see a hint of sadness in their eyes when they say it. The only knock right now on Obama is that he only has a couple of years under his belt in the Senate and that he may not have enough experience to be President. Also, if he decides to challenge Clinton in 08 and loses, it could be a devastating blow.

Right now it is all up to Obama. If he decides to run I think he will be the next President--I don't know of any political figure that would stand any kind of chance of beating him (Clinton would be the only feasible possibility with the stupidity of the powers that be of the Dem party behind her). The other thing that could happen would be that Clinton would come to him with the promise of the Vice Presidency to take any immediate Obama aspirations out of the picture for now.

That could be dangerous for Obama, though.

Ford-way too conservative--even more than I realized at first. He is a moderate though and Tennessee loves moderates (and there is only one moderate in this race). He would be a positive for Tn and the nation. Corker is more of a moderate than he has been running as, which is why he has fallen behind and should lose. He has attached himself to Bush and the national Republican party--he has run the type of campaign that would have won him the race back in 00 or 04 just becuase he is Republican, but those days are over.

The only worrisome thing for now is the $120 million that Rove is pumping into the important races. Ford needs to continue to extend his lead in order to ensure a win.

Studio 60--great show. NBC still is the business of shoveling crap though--see Friday Night Lights--I don't watch a lot of shows but it has to be one of the worst shows on TV. I watched about 10 minutes of this show and it was constant cheese city, trying to convince you that there is nothing more important than high school football with the players saying stupid lines like, "Let's touch God this season boys." Vomit. Cancel it please. Love Studio 60 though. First class.

The only thing that really worries is that, once he throws the hat in the ring, he's subject to attack from so many directions. right now, he's so shiny and promising, so charismatic, such a gorgeous example of political and civil hope for this country... I'm just reluctant to see any of that glow worn off, you know? And that's what happens! But, many, it would be a beautiful thing.

this might sound crazy but I think the Republicans are really beginning to be worn out by everything--Bush, scandal, a new cold war looming, terrorism . . . I think if Obama steps forward there will be as much relief on the Republican side as on the Democratic side. Finally someone who can bring the country together behind him, is full of integrity as far as we know, can be a true world leader who will make smart, thought out decisions.

[Hopefully he can dispel Corporate America from gathering behind him, then he could really do and stand for great things]

Could this be happening? A bunch of liberals with hope for the future?? Be still my little heart!
